On Thursday 17th October, KKDT ran a Family Fun and Information Day in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Employability and Skills with aims to spread more information on some of the services we have available to us in Kirkconnel and Kelloholm, or services that are planning sessions in the area in the future. This came following a Community Consultation that D&G Council ran with us earlier in the year which led us to find that a lot of locals weren’t aware of many of the support groups, classes, drop ins and other sessions happening in the area.

Organisations that attended included:
- Let’s Get Sporty
- NHS Dumfries & Galloway
- Quarriers
- Skills Development Scotland
- Upper Nithsdale Action for Children
- Lifelong Learning, Dumfries & Galloway Council
- Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service
- Dumfries and Galloway Carers Centre
- CEIS Ayrshire
- Right Options
- Youth Work D&G
- Multiply
- Alcohol and Drugs Support South West Scotland
- Triage
- Scottish Childminding Association
- South of Scotland Enterprise

KKDT has experience running our own community groups which is why we recognise the importance of awareness of services. KKDT recently received funding from Nithsdale Area Committee Discretionary Fund to continue our ‘Warm Hub’ in FoodShare which is a project that we started after COVID intending to combat social isolation and rising heating costs. We hope to further this well into to the future as projects like this, which focus on wellbeing have always been successful and well-attended.
The Trust and D&G Council also know the importance of providing activities for young people and families, especially during the School Holidays. The kids had free access to trampolines, MYpod, Table Top Candyfloss Machine, Bouncy Castles, Soft Play, Football on the MUGA, Face Painting, Glitter Tattoos and Arts and Crafts.
Thank you to all who attended our Family Fun and Information Day as well as all who worked and volunteered alongside KKDT at this event, including, FoodShare for providing lunches, Amy and Tegan for Face Painting, Helen doing Arts and Crafts, FlossyPop, Albert Reid Amusements, MYpod, Lets Get Sporty, and Hillview Staff.
